I am one of the UK’s leading dog trainers, I am particularly passionate about working breeds and dealing with reactivity and aggression cases.
Some of the country’s worst dogs come to me and I absolutely love working with them to help them achieve their desired results no matter how bad the owner thinks their dogs behaviour is. My other passion is sport and protection work with my personal dogs and also my clients dogs. I have titled in multiple disciplines with multiple dogs and have competed throughout Europe. I have also helped train other dogs to achieve such titles. I am fortunate enough to have Dogs capable of achieving things in various sports and I’m lucky enough to train with the country’s best helpers and decoys. During my training for my IGP1 title of Axel I was training with team Great Britain and travelled with them to France to the world championships. I speak regularly at seminars and workshops throughout the country along side the world’s biggest names in dog training and have also taught clients and other trainers as far away as Denmark and America.
I had reached a point in my training and with Hugo where I was ready for more with a dog, Hugo had far exceeded my expectations of what was capable for him, I just knew I wanted an out and out working dog to really further my passion within dog training.
I was on waiting lists for litters of Belgian Malinois for a while, but nothing seemed to work out. Then I met Axel…
Axel was sold to his previous owners as a Belgian Malinois. They wanted a dog to walk around the park once a day after work. Now this breed needs more than one walk, they need mental stimulation on another level! I also quicky found out that his breeder had the whole litter in a small box in a flat with no other adult dogs around. Red flags were everywhere. Axel came to me at what his owners were told was 13 weeks, but I could clearly see that he was much younger.
When I first approached Axel, he was just super excitable to say hello to everyone he saw, which was actually a nice problem to have for this dog. However, he was also highly aggressive towards any other dog and would bark and scream at anything and everything.
Axel’s previous owners were mis-sold a puppy – too young, questionable breeding (I have since found out he is actually a German Shepherd x Dutch shepherd x Belgian Malinois!) and a working dog that just didn’t fit in to his previous owner’s lifestyle – they both worked full time and wanted a puppy that would be happy to chill at home during the day.
Three weeks after I got Axel, my boy Hugo passed away suddenly after complications with his health. Hugo had taught me everything now it was time to pass all that onto Axel.
Now after a lot of work every single day, Axel is an amazing dog and has pushed me forward in different areas of dog training. He is now a titled working dog, passing his ZWP1 certification, ACA (Advanced canine association) certification, BH certification, SDC certification. All these certifications and test require supreme control of your dog and a true balance of obedience and sociability.
I have entered him into many dog trials for protection and obedience and he has placed very well in these also!
He can track footsteps, search for small articles (coins, phones, wallets) and I am now starting him on drug detection.
Most of all, Axel’s needs are now fulfilled, and he is fully balanced…and happy! He is fully able to be off lead and comfortable around any distractions you could think of – kids, cars, livestock, anything! Don’t get me wrong, he is still crazy, but that’s his breeding and genetics but his training has allowed him to live his best life.
